Stakeholder Theory: A Process-Ontological Perspective

The first of two blog posts on shareholder and stakeholder theories of management.

An excellent research paper by Vladislav Valentinov and Robert Chia on the different worldviews (ontologies) associated with shareholder and stakeholder theories. The paper discusses the difference between substance (atomistic individualism) and process (relational) ontologies.

To improve, Lean promoters, influencers, and advocates must become active participants in efforts to render current paradigms (i.e., atomistic individualism) obsolete. A continued focus on “Lean tools” will not do it. This is the kind of learning that will help the Lean community move forward.
